New York Distilling Company was co-founded in 2011 by Tom Potter (also the co-founder of Brooklyn Brewery), his son Bill Potter, and the mixologist, sommelier, spirits business consultant, and all-around booze-guru Allen Katz . The trio, committed to distilling flavorful spirits with sustainably-grown local ingredients, produce three varieties of gin and are currently aging an American rye whiskey. The Williamsburg distillery shares a glass wall with The Shanty,a lively bar where customers can sip creatively crafted cocktails within view of the Distilling Company’s steaming stills and towering barrel racks. On weekend afternoons, live music warms the space even more.
