A Visit to Drake's Dealership, Oakland's Newest Beer Hall

On Monday, Drake’s Brewery officially opened the doors to their Downtown Oakland outpost, Drake’s Dealership. Located in an old car dealership behind The Hive on Broadway (walk through the parking lot to find the entrance on your left), Drake’s made great use of the brick, painted signs, & steel that remained from the previous tenants.

We stopped in for a few after-dinner beers and were very impressed. The Dealership’s huge open-air beer garden is filled with tables, saplings and fire pits. Plus, there is plenty of standing room for when the weekend crowds roll in. Overhead, preserved steel beams act as placeholders for the shade sure to be provided by the trees in the years to come. Inside, the modern industrial space was vast yet cozy, with long wooden tables well-warmed (and partially lit) by a roaring fireplace.

The tap list boasts 17 of Drake’s own beers, including 4 Limited Releases. All beers were available in a 4oz sample pour as well as a 12oz tulip glasses and/or 20oz pints depending on the style. Bottles to-go and growler fills are also available for a limited number of brews. Our group worked hard to explore most of the list and, after a discussion of the samples, the 7X70 XIPA was by and large the crowd favorite.

Overall, Drake’s Dealership delivered a fantastic evening and we’ll be back soon. The space is ideal for a big gathering and the service was fantastic (even with the hectic nature of opening night). Drake’s Dealership will be hosting a grand opening event on Friday, August 28th. For more information, visit Drake's website: http://drinkdrakes.com/.
